Loved: A story of robots trying to become human
Hated: No dialogue, sparse bits of non-daft punk music
My recent obsession with Daft Punk has led me to watch their 2007 written-and-directed-by movie. While hopeful that the movie would be great, I was initially skeptical seeing as how the majority of artists have trouble crossing from one major medium to another. I’m glad my skepticism proved to be wrong. Electroma follows “Hero Robot #1” and “Hero Robot #2” as they journey to become different from the rest of their robot contemporaries. The duo, as well as the citizens of the small town shown in the movie, don the same signature look as Daft Punk, as pictured above. Since the movie has no dialogue, everything is focused on visuals. I’m not gonna lie; It was difficult for me to focus during the couple of long scenes without any music. Despite that fact, the climax of the movie is almost guaranteed to move you to tears. Or maybe I’m just soft. Either way, it’s a touching story with some great visuals, but it will definitely not be everyone’s cup of tea. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a break from mainstream movies.
